A recent study indicates that the majority of ophthalmologists who advocate early treatment of glaucoma are on the right track. The study found that patients who had early treatment had less chance of glaucoma progression. Because there was a significant variation in rates of progression among patients, the study also indicated that careful patient monitoring is important.
